A Danish variant of “Katherine” with roots in medieval times (the era, not the restaurant), “Karen” was one of the top 10 names for girls born in the U.S. during the 1950s and ’60s, peaking as the No. 3 girl's name in 1965. After enjoying decades of good health as a solid name for swim aerobics instructors and hosts of murder-themed podcasts, Karen passed suddenly (from the pool of baby names) in the year 2020. No service was held, as everyone had much bigger problems, but the name was laid to rest - for good. A mention of the name in a historical text asserts that “cool Karens know it isn’t about them.”
